Savanna continued to make SA laugh. When South Africa first faced a tough lockdown in 2020, Savanna had to find a way to support comedic talent and so the Savanna Virtual Comedy Bar was born during the level 5 lockdown, living in the originated on Savanna’s Facebook and YouTube channels. The show was even recognized by the industry it supported at the South African Comedy Awards 2020 with two prestigious awards: Top Comedy Sponsor and Top Online Show.

Comedy Central Africa, being the world’s authority on comedy, took note of this comedy initiative and resumed the show for its first season on television in October of last year. The show continued to bring hilarity with audiences who watched programming from some of South Africa’s most beloved comedians such as Lihle Msimang, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Ebenhaezer Dibakwane and Farieda Metsileng. No subject was off the table (and never will be) – we understand each other here. So to be sure, put Gogo to bed instead before watching. This authenticity and daring made the show laugh and be nominated for a Saftas Award for Best Variety Show 2021.
