LOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven University will host gay musical actress Kristin Key at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9 in the auditorium of the Price Performance Center. The free show is open to the public and sponsored by the Presidential Commission on LGBTQ Affairs and Student Auxiliary Services Inc.

Key grew up as the daughter of a pastor in a small town in West Texas. A bit like the movie “Free of any tie,” she was raised in an environment with no drinking, no dancing, no instrumental music… so she immediately started drinking, dancing and playing an instrument.

Proving the Almighty has a weird sense of humor, Key came out of the closet at age 15 and it didn’t go well with his Tory family. She decided to “take it back,” step back into the closet and try to be upright a little more.

At 19, while in college to become a paramedic, Key signed up for Open Mic Night at the local comedy club. As soon as she took the stage, she felt at home. Although her observations and wit made her a local favorite, she has remained in the closet fearing losing her local fan base. Small shows in the Texas enclave turned into appearances across the country. Audiences couldn’t help but love the original comedy songs and rapid-fire comedy style from the “Child of the preacher” and although female comics have struggled to find work, she wasn’t set aside to be a woman, but just to be funny.

By participating in an anti-bullying fundraiser, Key finally broke his silence and decided to share his hilarious story of going out, picking up, living in the closet, and meeting his wife. After 15 years in comedy, she has found a way to perfectly blend her thinking causing hilarious true stories and original songs with outrageous improvisational moments, ensuring that no two shows are the same.

Key is best known for appearing on “Last comic strip standing”, additional credits include: NBC “Bring the funny” “Unleashed Comics” VH-1 “100 largest series”, “Special dry bar,” “Kristin Key: clever”, “Kristin knows empty” podcast, The Bob and Tom show and Sirius and XM Satellite Radio. She has released several comedy and music albums, including a Christmas album, “It’s starting to look a lot like Kristin” (available on Amazon, Google and iTunes).

“This time around, I’m so proud of my material, not because it’s better than anything anyone else does, but because it’s mine.” said the key. “I can finally talk about myself, I can talk about my wife, I can talk about my whole life. I’m happy to be proud of what I come up with because it’s mine, and to be comfortable in my own skin, not worrying all the time that someone might think I’m gay.

“We strive to make our campus and our community welcoming and diverse” said Dr Rick Schulze, chairman of the Presidential Commission on LGBTQ Affairs. “We hope Kristin’s comedy can play a part in celebrating our stories with laughter.”
