Godzilla vs. Kong has reached a new milestone at the global box office! Godzilla vs. Kong was one of the biggest theatrical releases during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and only made kaiju bigger when it started hitting international territories. With the final film in the MonsterVerse Quadrilogy to date finally hitting theaters in Japan following a series of pandemic delays, the film still finds all kinds of new box office hits in Japan. In fact, in its opening weekend, it took the top spot even with all the competition.
With Godzilla vs. Kong taking first place for its opening weekend in Japan, this is far from the only new success the film has had since its first theatrical release, as TOHO announced that the film has now passed the bar 50 billion yen with its Japanese opening.
