Fast and Furious 9 hits box office milestone

Fast & Furious 9 hit a big box office milestone.

The Universal movie hit most theaters late last month, having already opened in a few countries in May, and achieved the largest opening of any movie at the U.S. box office during the coronavirus pandemic.

Through Variety, it has since surpassed $ 500 million in worldwide ticket sales, making it the first U.S.-produced film to do so since 2019.

The only other American production to come close to the same feat this year was Godzilla vs. Kong, which was released in April and cost $ 446 million worldwide.

However, while F9 has an exclusive theatrical release window, Godzilla vs. Kong was released simultaneously on HBO Max as part of its same-day streaming deal with Warner Bros., and has since set its own HBO Max record.

Two other versions of the pandemic era have passed F9to date, although they have both been films produced in China.

Hi Mom got $ 822 million, while Detective Chinatown 3 took $ 686 million out of the world and broke a big Avengers: Endgame record.

F9 stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Charlize Theron, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Dame Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Cardi B.

There are also rumors that the 10th installment in the franchise will bring back the late Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner.

Fast & Furious 9 is now available in UK and US cinemas.
