‘Blue Bayou’ is the story of an American family during the KCET virtual cinema series on September 14

BLUE BAYOU – Official Trailer – Only in theaters September 17th

Q&A immediately following the screening with director, screenwriter and film co-star Justin Chon.

A moving and timely story of a uniquely American family fighting for their future, from award-winning writer / director Justin Chon. Antonio LeBlanc (Chon) is a Korean adoptee raised in a small bayou town in Louisiana. Struggling to improve the lives of his wife Kathy (Alicia Vikander) and daughter Jessie, Chon must face the ghosts of his past when he finds out he could be kicked out of the only country he’s ever called home.

Chon recently said, “I have quite a few adopted friends, and about five years ago I started hearing from the community that this problem was happening, where adoptees who were brought here by citizens Americans as children were now adults and at risk of deportation. I found this absolutely shocking, because you would think that if the government allows a child to be brought abroad, they will automatically get citizenship no matter what documents are not filled out.

And then after further research, I found out that once you get a deportation order, it’s almost impossible to overturn it. It happened a lot, and I just felt it was very unfair. I couldn’t imagine what it was like to be adopted and already have those kind of thoughts about who you are and where you are from and then ultimately the place you call home says also that he does not want to claim you. It must be psychologically damaging enough. So my heart bled for this community, and I really wanted to shed some light on this issue. “

Immediately following the screening, Deadline’s chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on KCET’s Must See Movies, will host a Q&A with director, screenwriter and film co-star Justin Chon.

The film will premiere on Tuesday, September 14 at 7 p.m. PDT. Only $ 10 per viewing link. Limited space available.
