Big budget “clash” at the box office as films rush to be screened in theaters

Hollywood also has a slew of big blockbusters lined up like “Eternals” and “Batman” by Oscar winner Chloe Zhao, which are expected to offer fierce competition to Indian films.

Rajnikanth’s “Annatthe” to take on Akshay Kumar’s cuddly cop “Sooryavanshi”

With theaters opening in Maharashtra on October 22 and many other states giving the green light for 100% theatrical seats, many production houses have rushed to announce their films’ release. But with the big ticket movie backlog, major box office clashes are expected in the coming months.

To add to the chaos, Hollywood also has a string of big blockbusters lined up like Oscar winner Chloe Zhao’s “Eternals” and “Batman” that are expected to provide fierce competition to Indian films, especially during the holiday season.

One of the first face-to-face in theaters will be Akshay Kumar’s cop hug, “Sooryavanshi” with “Annaatthe” from superstar Rajnikanth and “Eternals” from Hollywood.

Additionally, according to a Times of India report, the creators of “Sooryavanshi” called on movie theater owners to demand 100% screens on their release day, November 5th. This apparently put the brakes on a movie’s release. Salman Khan’s star ‘Antim’.

Manjesh Manjrekar told TOI that ‘Antim’ will be released in November but that they have not yet decided on the date. “But, a clash of films is now inevitable, because there is a delay of two years. A lot is at stake here and there have been examples in the past where films have faced off on the same release date and yet the two have worked well, ”Manjrekar told TOI.

Fearing competition from ‘Sooryavanshi’, the Shahid Kapoor star ‘Jersey’, the Hindi remake of the 2019 Telugu blockbuster, has been pushed back to December 31.

The official synopsis describes the plot as Eternals being the ancient aliens who have lived on Earth in secret for thousands of years. . After the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them to emerge from the shadows to unite against humanity’s oldest enemy, the Deviants. The film has actors like Angelina Jolie, Kit Harrington, Salma Hayek etc.

“Sooryavanshi” will however have to fight for screen space in the south for superstar Rajnikanth’s film “Annaatthe” which is slated to be released at the same time. “Annaatthe’s first look was unveiled on Ganesh Chaturthi with Rajinikanth wearing a traditional festive vesti and shirt looking skyward!

Filming for the film directed by Siva has been repeatedly postponed due to fear of a pandemic and against the backdrop of the superstar reluctant to float his own political party. But ‘Sooryavanshi’, directed by ‘Singham’ director Rohit Shetty, is a star-studded ensemble starring Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh. It has been one of the most anticipated Bollywood films not just because of its star-studded ensemble, an Indian Express report said.

Meanwhile, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, the remake of the popular American film ‘Forrest Gump’, has long been rumored to set Christmas as a release date. But the directors have finally announced that the film will hit theaters on Valentine’s Day, 2022. It’s also likely because the highly anticipated ’83’ actor Ranveer Singh who captures the journey of India to win the 1983 World Cup, is heading for a Christmas outing this year. “Laal Singh Chaddha” was directed by Advait Chandan, famous for “Secret Superstar”. The film, also played by Naga Chaitanya, was produced by Aamir Khan productions and Ajit Andhare.

Bachchan Pandey vs. Batman

Another Akshay Kumar film that will face a box office showdown is the action comedy “Bachchan Pandey”. The film set to arrive on March 4 will face stiff competition from the highly anticipated DC movie “Batman.”

“Bachchan Pandey,” which also stars Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez and Arshad Warsi, is a genre that Akshay Kumar has always delivered super hits, media reported. Meanwhile, expectations are high for “Batman” starring Robert Pattinson and directed by Matt Reeves. Footage from the film was also shown during Warner Bros’ presentation at CinemaCon.

And, what makes the excitement rise is the fact that this Batman is “enraged and his fight is very personal.” Director Reeves also revealed that this film is based on Frank Miller’s iconic comic book series Batman: Year One, which is considered the definitive origin story of the Caped Crusader.

Somewhere in between this clash of the titans, Ranbir Kapoor’s first film in three years since “Sanju” (2018), “Shamshera” finally has a release date. Produced by Yash Raj Films, this period action film is slated for release on March 18, 2022. It is said to be an “adrenaline-pumping artist” and stars Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt in key roles.

In April 2022, it will be Ajay Devgn vs Tiger Shroff when their ‘Mayday’ and ‘Heropanti’ 2 movies are released on the same day. “Mayday” not only stars Ajay Devgn, but was also directed by the actor. He also has Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh. While Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2, also features Tara Sutaria in the lead role, and is a sequel to her first Bollywood hit Heropanti (2014).

Finally, in August, the clash will pit ‘Adipurush’ directed by Prabhas, presented as a pan-Indian film, against the fraternal saga of Akshay Kumar ‘Raksha Bandhan’. Ramayana-inspired ‘Adipurush’ also includes Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon and Sunny Singh. While Prabhas plays a character based on Lord Ram, the role of Saif would be inspired by Ravana. Adipurush is said to be a lavish production funded by T-Series. They’ll face the big-budget sequel to KGF, starring Yash and Sanjay Dutt, also hitting screens in August.

Big clashes in the Kannada movies

On October 14, a big box office clash is expected between Sudeep’s ‘Kottigabba 3’ and Duniya Vijay’s ‘Salaga’. Two weeks later, Shivarajkumar’s fantasy film ‘Bhajarangi 2’ hits screens on October 29. Although ‘Kottigabba’ producer Soorappa Babu asked for ‘Bhajarangi 2’ producer, he didn’t budge.

“It’s a month of celebration and we have waited too long for the cinemas to be fully occupied. I had no other option, ”Babu told Deccan Herald. Clashes are inevitable, added the producer. People had laughed at him when he released “Kotigabba” along with Kamal Haasan’s “Alavandhan”, but the film became a blockbuster, as the Tamil film bombed, he told DH .

It all comes down to good content, ‘Salaga’ producer KP Srikanth said. A Kannada film “Rangi Taranga” took the power of “Bahubaali” in 2015 to also emerge as a box office winner.
